Finger Technique: Finger Extensions

Finger Ext 1

Finger Extensions is one of eight Nia finger techniques that offer self-healing and conditioning benefits to your hands, arms and whole body. This move trains you to direct movement by tuning into the sensation of extending the fingers in each hand: your thumbs, index, middle, ring and pinky fingers. Learn to sense the flexibility from finger to hand to upper extremities to whole body.  Use finger extensions to connect to the space and world around you. Continue below for tips and video.

Tips:  Isolate each finger, then integrate all ten fingers as you extend into space. Turn your hands in a variety of directions to explore the flexibility and mobility of the shoulder joint. Play with thumbs up, integrating index as "desire finger", middle finger as "power finger", fourth finger as "commitment finger" and pinky as exploring "boundaries." Watch and move to the video below to bring this finger technique alive!
