Toes In, Out, Parallel

Toes IOP 1

Toes In, Out, Parallel is one of Nia's eight foot techniques that offer self-healing and conditioning benefits to your body from the ground up. This move trains you to sense the internal and external rotation of your hip joints. Benefits include hip mobility, flexibility and strength.  This is an excellent preparation for any Nia kick, knee sweep, deepening of a stance or integrating with certain steps! Continue below for tips and video.

Tips: Learn to rotate your thighbone at the hip joint, consciously directing your toes, knees and thighbones in the same direction. Sustain a spring-loaded base of your standing leg. Imagine your feet as the 3 P's: pigeon, penguin and person. Gain movement skill by moving slow then fast, by alternating right and left or playing dynamically with both toes in, out or parallel as you walk through space. Watch and move to the video below to bring your practice alive!
