Knee Sweep

Knee Sweep

The Knee Sweep is considered the fourth Nia kick, and like the front, side and back kick, it draws upon the marital arts for inspiration. As you practice, maintain a spring-loaded base and balance through the core. Key into the mobility of the hip joint as you draw one knee across the body in a semi-circular motion.

As you gain movement skill and balance, play with different heights, speeds, range of motions, energies and combinations. Continue below for Tip and Video!

Tip:  Start with your level one - a small range of motion - drawing the knee just across the center of your body before adding range and intensity. Use your opposite hand to push the knee away. Play with decelerating your sweeping leg as you lower it. Sound, "SWEEP" to integrate your body and breath.
